Approximate size; 18 inches in height by 13 1/4 in width.

Selected by the index of American Design by the Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.). Federal Arts Project of the 1930s and 1940s. Motifs were chosen from various categories, such as decorated chests, illuminated manuscripts, ceramics, metal objects and barn decorations. By divorcing the graphics from their original application and media, their use as a source for creative design was enhanced.

On the reverse of each print, a line drawing indicates the original use of each design. No matter houw first employed, they can be used today as fresh inspiration.
